Reader,
This last week included a public holiday in Kenya and one would think that would lead to lots of reading but, as you’ll see later in this entry, it was mostly sleeping. Ye Oulde Aunt Flo will do that to you, as always, and this go-around was particularly brutal.
Something else this week has been seeing Bookstagram full of messages related to Palestine and the current situation in Gaza. I should probably create a folder dedicated to all the books that have been recommended during this time because there have been lots of reading lists. Books are a huge part of how I process the world so seeing fiction and non-fiction titles outlined has been a huge gift.
Lastly, yesterday I attended the second edition of the Silent Book Club Nairobi Chapter’s meetups. It was a pleasure to read quietly with other folks who like reading and to connect with them over the books we were reading as well as all the other issues that reading brings up (we had quite the conversation about Palestine, for example!). If you’re interested in coming along for a future meet-up or starting a chapter, here’s the Instagram page.

I have finished two books since I last wrote to you - hybrid reads of Before I Let Go by Kennedy Ryan (narrated by Wesleigh Siobhan & Jakobi Diem) and The Bandit Queens by Parini Shroff (narrated by Soneela Nankani). My latest videos are of the books I got at the Macondo Festival (you can watch it here) and a tag (watch it here). To catch the videos I’m working on when they’re done, subscribe to the channel if you haven’t yet!
As ever, please write back to me and tell me what books you’re reading or looking forward to reading — it’s always a great time talking about books.
Enjoy the week ahead and have a lovely time reading. Talk to you soon!
