Reader,
I am writing this at 2305 hours because I (gasp) forgot to write in the face of an unusual Sunday. Trying to go under the bar here so it’ll be a short one.

Triathlon Dreams
I walked to some audiobooks and hope, in the wake of watching Physical Season 1, to get some exercise this coming week. I’d have swam but Ye Oulde Red Lady said nay 🙁
One of the things Physical reminded me of was the self-loathing that accompanies fitness for some people and it made for both compulsive (I binged !!! the first season) and repulsive (CW: disordered eating, negative body talk, fatphobia) watching.

August is proving to be an bookish month with both the Soma Nami Fair (longer thoughts on that soon) at the beginning of the month and now the NBO LitFest this coming weekend (Saturday programme here, Sunday programme here). Next month, there’s the Macondo Festival (I got a Weekend ticket as soon as I could; I’m that keen) and I can’t wait to see what each of these events bring.
Quick news/ things that may be of interest:
On Thursday from 6pm at Goethe Institut: the opening of Amplitudes of Dawn, curated by Down River Road and Friends (among them Rosie Olang’, Alexis Teyie, and Sound of Nairobi)
On Saturday: artist presentation and demo session with Nabalayo and Precious Narotso (RSVP here), part of the RIBA show at The African Art Trust (TAAT) Space on Riara Road

Dracula Daily, which I mentioned in a past entry, continues apace. Jump on if you’re keen
You can send me books, postcards, letters, and assorted gifts via PO Box 102439, Jamia Posta 00101, Nairobi, Kenya
I have finished three books since I last wrote to you - hybrid reads of Dear Committee Members (Jason Fitger #1) by Julie Schumacher (read by Robertson Dean) and The Shakespeare Requirement (Jason Fitger #2) by Julie Schumacher (read by the author) as well as the physical edition of What Napoleon Could Not Do by D.K. Nnuro and my latest video is from 2020 (you can watch it here). To catch the videos I’m working on when they’re done, subscribe to the channel if you haven’t yet!
As ever, please write back to me and tell me what books you’re reading or looking forward to reading — it’s always a great time talking about books.
Enjoy the rest of the week and have a lovely time reading. Talk to you soon!
