I started a swimming book club. We’ve only met once, and we didn’t do much of either. The official narrative is that we were getting to know each other.
One of the founder members of the group (founders landed in my head today because of one of the books I’m currently reading - Stephen Graham Jones’s My Heart is a Chainsaw) asked me about my long-on-hiatus, defunct-for-all-intents-and-purposes newsletter and I said I’d start a new one when I finished Book 150. Well, I finished it on Saturday, less than 6 hours after that conversation (it was What Are You Going Through by Sigrid Nunez) and now I have to do what I said I would do.
The enthusiasm I feel sounds muted because I’ve spent the day out and about and that’ll wipe one out in November heat but here’s the plan:
Every Monday, I’ll do a 25 minute Pomodoro of vibes. Books will be discussed, but also the other things that come with reading books - Disc Horse, juicy reviews, hot authors, the channeling of desire via romance, what BookTube channels I’m enjoying, the works. When the Pomodoro ends, the newsletter will be sent out so there may sometimes be a feverish quality, idk, I’ll try have a script in advance.
Come along for the ride and tell your homies!
There will be sporadic swimming updates.
I thought reading and swimming were both lonely ventures. But swimming and a bookclub is an interesting mix. Looking forward to next Monday and blessings to all Mondays in future.
